Following the massive crash during the practice session of the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans where Audi’s works driver Loic Duval lost control of the Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro No.1 he was driving and wreaked the car into the sidewall at Porsche Curve while travelling at 168mph, Audi’s team of race mechanics declared war on time with one mission in mind: rebuild the car overnight for the race. Loic Duval walked away unhurt in the crash, but the car was a total wreak. Audi’s mechanics quickly brought out a spare chassis and all the spare parts required and started working in the pits. By morning, Audi tweeted a pic on Twitter showing that the rebuilding of car was almost done which amazed the world! The car will enter the race with Marc Gene replacing Loic Duval.

Audi Welcomes Porsche’s Return To The 24 Hours Of Le Mans

Porsche’s return to the LMP1 class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race with the 919 Hybrid certainly stirred up attention among fans and rivals. Porsche had won Le Mans for 16 times in the pass, but Audi had dominated the race since their entry in 2000 with 12 wins, losing only to Bentley in 2003 and Peugeot in 2009. To welcome the old king back and to show what the new king could do, Audi took one of their R18 E-Tron Quattro to Porsche’s headquarters in Zuffenhausen, Germany for a tire smoking ceremony. Publicity and rivalry certainly does not come any more exciting than this.
