The Toyota GT86 CS-R3 rallycar will be making its public debut at ADAC Rallye Deutschland next month. Germany based Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) had developed the GT86 CS-R3 to help Toyota return to its rallying roots with a rear-wheel-drive car. The Toyota GT86 CS-R3 weights only 1080kg and features an upgraded version of the FA20 2.0 boxer engine with updated software, a higher compression ratio and changes to the cam lift to produce between 240-250bhp. All the power will be sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. The GT86 CS-R3 will also feature a FIA-homologated roll cage. The car is set to compete in the World Rally Championship’s R3 class but it will not compete against the clock in Rallye Deutschland. Instead, it will be used as a zero car in the hands of Isolde Holderied to conduct safety checks on each stage before the rally cars go on their timed runs. Isolde Holderied will also help to evaluate the car, which is currently still a prototype, to help improve the design to meet the R3 homologation specifications. Watch the car undergoing testings below.
